Leucoderma and Stretch Marks |
Leucoderma is defined as white skin. Vitiligo is
thus a type of leucoderma. Stretch marks are
another kind of leucoderma. Stretch marks are
fine white lines that develop when a person
grows or gains weight quickly, often during
puberty or pregnancy. Although skin is usually
fairly elastic, overstretching disrupts
collagen, the major protein in skin connective
tissue. It is more common in women than men. An
estimated 55% of the U.S. population has stretch
marks.
